SHELBY — A 28-year-old Hesperia man who “resisted extensively” with sheriff’s deputies during his arrest allegedly assaulted a deputy again after he was transported to Mercy Health Partners Lakeshore Campus for a mental evaluation Thursday, March 15, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The man was initially arrested for domestic violence and probation violation on East Garfield Road in Greenwood Township shortly before 5 a.m. when he allegedly resisted arrest, Mast said.

Shortly after 4 p.m., the suspect was transported to the hospital for a mental evaluation. “He again assaulted a deputy and resisted extensively,” Mast said.

The suspect remains lodged in the Oceana County Jail on several felony charges and has not yet been arraigned, the sheriff said.
