SHELBY TOWNSHIP — A 35-year-old Hart man who allegedly wielded a handgun Wednesday evening, Jan. 17, while at a residence on South 72nd Avenue could face a charge of felonious assault, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The suspect, who currently is in police custody on marijuana possession and open intoxicants charges, “showed up looking for the resident,” Mast said. “We are led to believe he displayed a handgun.” No injuries occurred in the incident, which was reported at 6:35 p.m.

The suspect was located by authorities at 9:30 p.m., and he was arrested by the Michigan State Police on marijuana possession and open intoxicants charges at the intersection of Polk Road and 72nd Avenue in Hart Township, according to MSP Sgt. Charles Hockanson. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.

“Due to the sensitive nature of the case, that is all I can release right now,” the sheriff said. Detectives continue to follow up on leads as the case remains under investigation, he said.

More information will be posted when it is available.
