ROTHBURY — Troopers from the Michigan State Police are in a standoff with a wanted suspect who may be armed in the area of 88th Avenue near the Oceana Shores subdivision Monday, Nov. 13.

Post Commander F/Lt. Jeff White said no one is injured, and there are no hostages.

The suspect, who is a 34-year-old Oceana County man, is wanted on felony warrants, White said.

MSP, which is being assisted by the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office and the Rothbury Police Department, has 88th Avenue blocked off to traffic beginning at Winston Road.

“We don’t want to walk away from this guy,” White said. “We want to make sure we get him.”

The suspect is holed up in a residence, refusing to come out. Police are negotiating with him to surrender.

“Time is on our side,” White said.

As of 1:15 p.m., White did not know if the road blockade will interrupt school bus traffic later this afternoon, but is hopeful the scene will be cleared by then.

OCP will provide further updates when available.
