EDEN TOWNSHIP — Roy James Alltop, 46, 3745 132nd Ave., Hart, was arraigned earlier this week in Mason County’s 79th District Court on the misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, second offense. Alltop was arrested Saturday night by troopers from Michigan State Police Hart Post after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a ditch and trees at the corner of Eden Lake and Sippy roads. The crash caused his passenger, Blair Rochelle Collins, 27, of Hart, to be trapped inside the vehicle. Collins suffered fractured legs and ankles, according to MSP.

Alltop was driving a Ford Explorer pickup truck south on Eden Lake Road and apparently failed to turn east onto Sippy Road where Eden Lake Road ends. The pickup truck left the roadway, went into a ditch and collided with several trees. He initially told MSP troopers on scene that he wasn’t the driver and that the driver had fled the scene. Later, after presented with evidence to the contrary by troopers, he changed his story.

Firefighters/rescue personnel used a winch connected to the Custer Fire Department rescue vehicle to pull the truck away from the trees. Riverton Township Fire Department, Ludington Fire Department, Life EMS ambulance, and Mason County Sheriff’s Office personnel, also assisted on the scene.

Collins was transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital and then to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Alltop has an extensive criminal history:
