HART — A 39-year-old Shelby man faces up to life in prison for his alleged involvement in an armed robbery in which a knife was held to the victim’s throat.

Oscar Borrego, of 186 Pine St., was arrested Aug. 11 by the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office for a felony of armed robbery.

It is alleged that Borrego was the driver during the robbery, and the suspect who allegedly wielded the knife has not been identified, said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.

Borrego allegedly drove the victim to Wilson’s General Store in Mears to cash a check, Bizon said. After the victim cashed the check, Borrego drove to the “back roads” in Hart Township “in the middle of nowhere,” Bizon said.

A man in the back seat put his arm around the victim’s neck from behind and held a knife to his throat, Bizon said. Borrego and the other suspect stole the victim’s cell phone and some cash, he said. The victim received minor injuries.

A preliminary conference in 78th District Court is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 29, at 3 p.m. Borrego’s bail was set at $50,000/cash/surety.
