West Shore Bank advises about debit card texting scam.

West Shore Bank, through its website, is reporting that it has received complaints from customers about a recent text message scam. Text messages apparently are claiming to be from West Shore Bank and state that the customers’ MasterCard debit card is suspended.

“West Shore Bank does not currently send text messages to its customers unless subscribed and requested through mobile banking,” the fraud alert on the bank’s website states.

The fraud alert further advises anyone who receives such a text message on their mobile device to immediately delete the message and do not call the telephone number or open any links.

“This message is an attempt to obtain your bank account number and was not sent by West Shore Bank.”
