Dollar General to open May 9; ‘soft opening’ planned for April 26

ROTHBURY — A new Dollar General store, at 7637 S. Michigan Ave., is tentatively scheduled for a grand opening, May 9, and a “soft opening”April 26, according to corporate officials.

The 9,000-square-foot store is the third Dollar General store to open in Oceana County, with other locations in Hart and Shelby. A Dollar General is also located in Hesperia just past the county line in Newaygo County.

The Dollar General corporation continues to flourish as it is opening 730 new stores across the nation in 2015, said Communications Coordinator Mary Kathryn Patterson.

The Rothbury store will bring 6-10 new jobs to the area, three of which will be full-time positions, Patterson said. Open interviews for positions at the Rothbury store will be conducted this Friday, April 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Shelby location, she said.

“We do plan on applying for a license to sell beer and wine, but the (Rothbury) store will not likely sell it immediately after opening,” Patterson added.
