The suspect vehicle allegedly involved in Sunday’s hit-and-run on Jefferson Road after it went into the ditch.

CRYSTAL TWP. — The suspect in Sunday’s hit-and-run accident on Jefferson Road who was captured on video by accident victim Dayna Hasil of Pentwater is a 51-year-old Hart man, said Oceana County Undersheriff Tim Priese.

The man’s name is not being released pending his arraignment in 78th District Court. He is facing charges of operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident, Priese said.

Hasil called Mason-Oceana 911 (her husband, Ray, is the 911 director) and reported the incident. She then turned around to try to find the pickup. About 10 minutes later she found the pickup in a ditch and the driver stumbling around on the road. She said she witnessed him falling into a ditch and lying there for several minutes.

Wintery weather Sunday afternoon and evening caused several accidents in Oceana County.

The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 11 crashes Sunday and this morning, Priese said. The Hart post of the Michigan State Police was dispatched to two crashes in Oceana County Sunday afternoon.

A Mason County woman received minor injuries following a single-vehicle rollover crash on US-31 near Monroe Road in Hart Township Sunday. The woman was the only human occupant in the northbound Volvo XC70, which left the roadway and struck several trees. Two dogs were also in the car, and one of them fled the scene. Rescue personnel were attempting to find it Sunday, but it has not yet been found. ”My understanding is they located one, and did not locate the second dog,” Priese said.
