Allied health students compete at regional.

Local Career and Technical Education (CTE) allied health students recently competed at a Regional Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) competition at Baker College.  There were 22 students from West Shore Educational Service District who competed in a wide range of areas including CPR, medical photography, and physical therapy.   Over 400 students competed from the northern Michigan region.  Students who placed will be invited to compete in the state competition April 16-18 in Traverse City.  First place students were awarded a $500 scholarship to Baker College.

West Shore Educational Service District offers 11 CTE programs and many are located on the campus of West Shore Community College. Each program is designed to help prepare students for a successful future by offering hands-on courses that provide job-like learning opportunities. The CTE courses include Allied Health, Automotive Technology, Construction Trades, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Digital Media, Graphic Communications, Marketing, Mechatronics, Teacher Academy, and Welding.  CTE courses are offered to 11th and 12th grade students in Mason, Lake, Oceana, and Manistee Counties.  To learn more visit www.wsesd.org.
