February 13, 2015

WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM EST SATURDAY

HAZARDOUS WEATHER

* THIS IS A DANGEROUS STORM BECAUSE OF WIDESPREAD BLOWING SNOW
AND EXTREME COLD. NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP ON
SATURDAY WITH WIND CHILLS FALLING WELL BELOW ZERO.

* THE TOTAL SNOW AMOUNTS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO BE EXCESSIVE AND
SHOULD NOT EXCEED SIX INCHES IN MOST AREAS. IT WILL ALSO BE A
LIGHT AND FLUFFY SNOW THAT IS EASILY BLOWN AROUND. WIND GUSTS
AS HIGH AS 45 MPH ARE EXPECTED BY LATE SATURDAY MORNING.

* SNOW WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES TONIGHT AND SATURDAY. THE HEAVIER
SNOW BANDS WILL SHIFT AROUND SO THERE WILL BE TIMES WHEN THE
SNOW DIMINISHES OR ENDS.

* SNOW WILL END SATURDAY EVENING BUT DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS OF
15 TO 30 BELOW ARE EXPECTED OVERNIGHT SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY
MORNING.

IMPACTS

* VERY DANGEROUS TRAVEL DUE TO FREQUENT WHITEOUTS IN SNOW AND
BLOWING SNOW. THE WORST CONDITIONS WILL BE ON SATURDAY.

* SNOW COVERED AND SLIPPERY ROADS WITH TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS AND
DELAYS LIKELY.

* THE BITTER COLD WILL MAKE IT VERY HAZARDOUS IF YOU SHOULD
BECOME STRANDED. FROSTBITE TIMES UNDER 30 MINUTES.

* SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES POSSIBLE ALONG THE LAKESHORE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

* IF YOU MUST TRAVEL MAKE SURE TO CARRY A WINTER SURVIVAL KIT
WHICH INCLUDES A CHARGED CELL PHONE

BLANKETS AND WARM
CLOTHING

FLASHLIGHT

A SACK OF SAND OR CAT LITTER

AND
BATTERY BOOSTER CABLES.

* THE COMBINATION OF VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL CREATE
DANGEROUSLY COLD WIND CHILL VALUES OVER THE WEEKEND.
FROSTBITE TIMES WILL ONLY BE ON THE ORDER OF 10 TO 20 MINUTES
SATURDAY NIGHT. LIMIT YOUR TIME OUTSIDE AND DRESS IN MULTIPLE
LAYERS THIS WEEKEND. MAKE SURE ALL EXPOSED SKIN IS COVERED.
