LEAVITT TOWNSHIP — A Walkerville man who lives and operates a small beef cattle operation in the 6000 block of East Filmore Road reported to authorities yesterday that up to 20 of his cows are on the loose.

The farmer told police that some time during early January he had a fence fail, and he now believes he has lost approximately eight to 20 cattle from his herd, according to a press release from the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.  The man is requesting assistance in returning any stray cattle that may be sighted in the area. Missing are some Holstein, white-faced and other mixed breeds, the press release states. The cattle range in size from 200-1,000 pounds.

Anyone observing these loose cattle is asked to contact Oceana County Central Dispatch at (231) 869-5858.
