March 10, 2014

SHERIDAN TWP., Newaygo County — A 57-year-old Walkerville woman has died as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash earlier today. The crash occurred about 12:15 p.m. on Maple Island Road just north of 96th Street in Newaygo County’s Sheridan Township.

A 4-door Chevrolet vehicle driven by Todd Raby, 49, Hesperia, was traveling north on Maple Island Road and collided head-on with a southbound Chevrolet Blazer driven by Frances Brink, 57, Walkerville. Brink’s husband, Arthur Brink, was in the front passenger seat at the time of the collision, according to a report from Michigan State Police Hart Post.

Witnesses at the scene advised that the vehicle driven by Raby crossed the centerline and collided with the Blazer. Witnesses also stated that the Blazer attempted to avoid the collision but were unable to do so.

AeroMed air ambulance transported Frances Brink from the scene to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in downtown Grand Rapid where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Arthur Brink and Todd Raby were transported to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon and were both listed in serious condition.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash, the MSP release stated.

Troopers were assisted by Fremont Fire Dept., Holton Fire Dept. and Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office. The crash continues to be under investigation.
